DISPOSABLE VAPE BAN

I am extremely pleased that disposable vapes have been banned from sale since 1st June.

I successfully participated in 2 motions within council regarding these types of vapes. Whilst vapes can be an extremely effective tool to stop smoking, these disposable vapes actually encourage non-smokers to start vaping. This is mostly seen in our youngsters and the vapes were directly targeted at them with the bright colours, cool names, and an array of flavours.

Whilst I am pleased a ban has been introduced, there are still issues with types of vapes this prohibits. I know of vapes that have, for example, 6000 puffs. These are actually rechargeable but you can’t replace the oil once complete. This then means these vapes get discarded. But because they are rechargeable, they aren’t included in the ban. More needs to be done and I will continue to lobby for a complete ban of these disposable vapes.
