Councillor Elise Frame

As your SNP Councillor for Ward 5 - Avondale & Stonehouse, I am dedicated to serving you and the community.

Wednesday 18th March marked a truly historic moment for SMILE Children’s Charity

I am incredibly prou
d to share that South Lanarkshire Council has approved the Community Asset Transfer of Canderavon to SMILE Children’s Charity

This is more than just a decision - it is the beginning of something transformational for families across Lanarkshire.

Canderavon will become a dedicated respite house, sensory play and wellbeing centre, and community hub for children with disabilities, serious illness, and the families who care for them every single day.

For so many of the families they support, life can be exhausting, isolating, and overwhelming. Today’s decision brings them one step closer to giving them the support, space, and dignity they deserve.

This journey has been deeply personal for the family. SMILE was founded in memory of their son Justin, and everything they do is driven by a desire to create something positive from unimaginable loss. With their daughter Charlotte living with complex needs, we understand first-hand just how vital the right support can be.

To have this vision recognised and supported at this level means more than we can put into words.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to South Lanarkshire Council, the committee members, and everyone who has supported us along the way. Your belief in this project will have a lasting impact on hundreds of families.

But this is just the beginning.

We now move into the next phase bringing Canderavon to life. We’ll be calling on partners, funders, and the community to help us turn this vision into a reality.

Together, we can build something truly special.

Thank you for believing in SMILE
